Malawian visual artist Andrew Missi and the cover Logos Open Culture’s next book
Malawian visual artist Andrew Missi completed his piece for Logos Open Culture’s forthcoming book Making Music in Malawi by John Lwanda. We are excited to share a glimpse of the painting with you on this blog.
Andrew Missi travelled from his hometown of Blantyre, Malawi, today to bring us the painting that tells its own story about music in Malawi.
Andrew Missi learnt to paint while working for a sign writer. He is a self-taught impressionist painter. He learnt more contemporary techniques from French artist Claude-Henri Bartoli at Blantyre’s erstwhile French Cultural Centre. If you are interested in seeing more of his works, take a look at the Jacaranda Cultural Centre’s article about an exhibition of Missi’s work.
Logos Open Culture’s vision to tell Malawian stories includes through visual arts. This is why our publications to date feature both upcoming and celebrated Malawian artists on the cover.
