Two new Malawian books launched this weekend
This weekend was exciting for Malawi’s literary scene as two self-published books were launched. Former Malawian politician Khwauli Msiska launched his autobiography Beyond Chasing The Dream and entrepreneur Thokozani Kaipa launched Better Version of Yourself.
Msiska’s launched his book on Saturday at Ufulu Gardens in Lilongwe. In his memoir, Msiska reflects on the importance of determination and focus in one’s career. He also shares about his involvement in some of the most controversial periods in Malawi’s post-1994 democracy: former president Bakili Muluzi’s bid for a third term in office.
Thokozani Kaipa’s book sets out to help “all the people out there who feel lost”. From the blurb,
It was a really cold day, Covid19 had begun, and a thought crossed my mind about how young and older people continuously destroy their everyday lives due to situations and trying to be what they are not. […] May this book help you find your way back and become who you are meant to be. You are promised a beautiful life.
Logos Open Culture’s COO Muti Etter-Phoya attended both. He spoke Kaipa’s launch yesterday at the Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe. Of the books, he said:
There is a hunger for Malawian content. These books are inspiring as we need to tell our own stories. This lies at the heart of what we do as a publisher Logos Open Culture. And of course, your favourite bookshop Chambo Market, is very happy to stock literature by Malawian authors.
The Chambo Market hopes to stock both books in the coming weeks.
