The job

In this role, you’ll help our bookshop customers’ experience the love of Malawi and its rich heritage. You’ll be part of a small, amazing team passionate about promoting Malawi.

You’ll be responsible for selling books, creative marketing for the bookshop and literary events, as well as helping out and later overseeing literary events. You’ll also be key in building relationships with customers that may lead to more book sales and new literary and cultural heritage projects.

Our ideal candidate…

You are confident, friendly, with excellent English. You enjoy meeting new people and building a rapport quickly. You are social media savvy, and careful with your written words. You are not sloppy. You pay extra attention to the little details. You enjoy books, like to talk about them, share them and read them. The ideal person would also enjoy helping host literary events for adults and kids.

Your tasks will include…

Serving customers, in person, on the phone, and via the web. Social media marketing for the bookshop and literary events. Using payment systems. Unpacking and displaying stock, pricing goods, cleaning, paperwork and filing. Visits to the bank and other administrative tasks. You will be expected to have intimate knowledge of the books in the shop. You will also support in organising and hosting literary events.
